May 8,Kathmandu.New York police arrested more than 70 pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University on Wednesday.
The BBC reported in its news that they were arrested for occupying part of the university's main library.
According to a statement from Columbia University President Claire Shipman, protesters forced their way into Butler Library on Wednesday, injuring two university security officers.
Shipman said she had sought help from the New York Police Department. The New York City Police Department also posted on X about the incident.
Police said, "At the request of Columbia University, New York Police responded to a situation on campus, where multiple individuals had occupied the library."
According to the campus newspaper Columbia Spectator, police arrested more than 70 protesters. Meanwhile, Claire Shipman said most of the protesters were not university students.
